English Language Teaching to Basic Learners
Teacher confidence is important in teaching, because the teacher acts as a teacher, motivator and practice in the English classroom. They also contributed a number of inputs for reflection and improvement of teaching in English language learning. It is expected that teachers contribute to matters related to exposure, motivation and practice in English language learning
* Considered obstacles in teaching English to basic learners are the limited time available, as well as the teacher's lack of awareness of motivating resources such as high-quality picture books. Teachers for basic learners need support to expand their knowledge, pedagogical content and skills. However, the low status of basic learning teachers hinders the opportunities needed, so there is often a shortage.
* English textbooks are the main source of learning in the classroom, so they should promote gender equality especially for basic learners. Because young age is a critical age to form children's perspectives, ideas, beliefs, ideologies and so on. English teachers are expected to improvise by providing more understanding of gender equality when using textbooks.
* Assumptions about English for young learners and their teaching are not always based on the assumptions of dominant professional and academic circles, but rather within the authority of society, with parents as a significant example. Therefore, English language teaching professionals and policymakers need to answer a variety of questions while engaging in active negotiations with local forces in the community.
* Teaching English to young learners has become a global phenomenon but many countries face dilemmas when it comes to teacher preparation, including Indonesia. Its pre-service system is not enough to prepare basic English teachers with knowledge and skills related to their job needs.
